Ive been noticing a large number of tweets in the last few weeks of people complaining that they don't have enough time to work out, especially with school and work ramping up again. Its September, summers over and people are back at their desks. Were thinking more about deadlines, schedules and budgets than sexy summer beach bodies from a few months ago.
We all know the drill about the evils of sedentary lifestyles, the fat stats coming out of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing that 33.8% of US adults are obese, and all the pains and aches from prolonged sitting (I suffer from lower back pain).
So I'm not going to go into them in any more detail, but point out that what most people dont know is that you can get your blood flowing, maintain your energy and spike your calorie burn in 10 minutes in between reports. Geoff (whos been working late for the last few weeks coding up the next version of the iPhone app ahead of our big launch) this ones for you.
Office workout:
Limitations: Confined space, limited time.
Available equipment: desk, chair and your own body.
Solution: 2-3 sets of 10-15 reps of each of these:
Chest and shoulder stretch. Loosen up after huddling over your papers on your desk.
Bodyweight squats. Simple yet effective lower body exercise, you can do this in a cubicle.
Bench push-ups off your desk. Excellent for upper body, also activates your core.
Dips off your chair. (Just be careful if your chair has wheels, lest you slip).
Single leg deadlift. Improve balance and coordination while working your hamstrings and gultes.
Bonus points: show your team spirit by geting your entire office to participate
