Pull-ups are an excellent exercise, and one of the best ways to develop your back and biceps. When you do a pull-up, you use your biceps and lats to move your body, while your lats and glutes are engaged to stabilize and protect your spine.
Unfortunately, lot of people are afraid of the pull-up bars and have difficulty doing them. Which is probably why don't always get much use, while there's frequently a line for the lat pulldown machine. But, you don't get the stabilization from the lat pulldown machine and don't get the chance to strengthen your core in the same way (yes glutes are part of your core).
We spoke to our friends over at Greatist and agreed to run a pull-up training challenge based on their "I want to do a pull-up" article.
So if you want to learn to do a pull-up, first read Greatist's original article. Then log your workouts in the Fleetly challenge and post your results in the challenge comments.
We like exercise programs like this where you learn to do something new and see real, tangible progression. Let us know if you'd be interested in more like this, for example push-ups or even one-arm push-ups. What do you think? You can tell me your ideas in the comments.
