
DESCRIPTION
Commonly considered primarily an arm workout, if canoeing and kayaking with proper technique, it actually incorporates your core muscles and shoulders to a high degree. In fact, strong core muscles are necessary for long paddles, and hip strength is important in many kayak rescues such as the roll.
Paddling usually falls into two main categories of flat water (touring/sea) and white water (or rapids). In each category, the paddler has to be able to read the weather and water conditions, be that currents, tides, rapids, etc.
